Back in n the 50’s and 60’s, men were eager to commit in a serious relationship. In fact men wore it like a badge of honor if they were in a committed relationship. It was only in the late 70’s when men started avoiding commitment.

Now half of the male population gets goose bumps when they hear the word commitment. In fact most men choose open relationships than committed ones. Indeed the complexity of and the struggle to maintain relationships are taking its toll on men. So let’s talk about the reasons why men are scared to commit themselves in a relationship.

1)Monogamy –Nowadays, men find it hard to maintain a monogamous relationship. With the tilted ratio between male and females, let alone the proliferation of homosexuality, practically the demand for men is overwhelming making monogamy unpalatable to men. Especially if a lot of woman is pursuing them.

2)Responsibility –Men are afraid of the responsibility that comes with a committed relationship. Compared to women whose maturity comes early, most men are not mature enough to meet the challenges of a committed relationship so they chose the easy way, an open relationship.

3)Trust –If you say only women have trust issues, then you are mistaken. Men are terrified of the idea that they might be cheated if they commit themselves in a serious relationship. Particularly in case of long distance relationships.

4)Ego –Men have superiority complex. That is why men find difficulty in committing themselves to a woman more successful than them.

5)Intimacy –Men have a tough image to maintain. They are afraid to show their soft side because it would mean losing their machismo. That is why it’s a taboo for men to cry in public or to openly pour their heart out except when they are drunk.

6)Control -Men likes to be in control of everything. Hence, the search for a submissive woman. This may be a long search because the women of this generation know what they want and will never be submissive enough to be controlled.

The enumeration may be endless however it must not end there. Positive response must be taken to allay this fear and finally end the pain it is causing to a lot of women.
