If you are a smoker, then you have been bombarded for years about the many reasons why you should stop smoking cigarettes. You know that they are unhealthy for you and everyone around you, and that sooner or later you will more than likely succumb to some disease because of your habit. But, for many smokers, the health scares are not enough reason to quit. Many smokers need something more important than their own mortality to scare them away from cigarettes.
Perhaps the most compelling argument to stop smoking cigarettes is the cost itself. With a pack of cigarettes costing well over £6 a pack in most parts of the country, someone with a pack a day habit is spending an awful lot of money every year on cigarettes. This is not to mention the money they are spending to take care of the health problems that the cigarettes are causing.
If you were to stop smoking cigarettes for just one year, you would be able to put away enough money to pay for several month's worth of car payments, a year's worth of car insurance, or even a mortgage payment or two. Imagine wasting that much money with every puff you take! If the price of smoking both in terms of money and your health is not enough to make you want to quit, then maybe shame will do it. Do you know how bad you stink when you are a smoker? You probably don't realize it because your sense of smell is dulled. But, ask any ex-smoker and they will be able to tell you that they tell instantly if someone is a smoker, just by the way they smell. It is a foul, offensive odor, and no matter how many showers you take, and how many times you wash your clothes, that smell is always with you.
It is true that in order to stop smoking cigarettes, you have to have a good reason and for many people, just the fear of death is not good enough. How about setting an example for your children? How about not endangering the health of everyone around you? How about saving an absolute fortune in money over the course of your lifetime? There are many reasons to stop smoking, but every person must decide on his or her own when it is time to do it, so why not try today?
