Genital Warts are small bumps that appear in the genital tract of both men and women. In men, these warts appear in body areas such as the anus, penis shaft and the scrotum, while in women, they are seen in body areas such s the uterus, cervix, anus and vagina. This is a sexually transmitted disease and it is visible in the mouth and throat regions of those who engage in sexual intercourse with someone already affected by the disease. The virus that causes genital warts is Human Papillomavirus (HPV). In addition to the HPV, genital warts can be caused as a result of a weakened immune system. Those with excessive stress or those who consume alcohol too much or those who smoke a lot also tend to get this disease. There is a preventative vaccine available against HPV for women. This vaccine is called Gardasil and it can protect certain types of HPV, which is the primary cause for 70 percent cervical cancer cases and also of 91 percent cause of genital warts. Genital warts cannot be completely cured as the cause of the problem which is HPV cannot be completely eliminated. HPV can stay dormant in the body for a long time and even after undergoing treatment, it is possible for the warts to outbreak at anytime again. It can be treated through various over-the-counter medication and prescription medications. If such medication does not cure the problem, it can be treated through carbon dioxide (CO2) laser surgery, loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP), cryosurgery or alpha-interferon injections. Since HPV enter the body as a result of weakening in body immunity, an increase in body immunity level can stop the problem of genital warts from resurfacing. It has also been found that the body gains some sot of control over the virus and when this happens outbreak of warts is controlled.
