Don't bother with wedding insurance - after all, what could possibly go wrong? This is your big day - perhaps the biggest day of your whole life. It is a magnificent declaration of the love which two souls have for each other, the very foundation of all that is good and true about the human spirit.

This is the day the world holds its breath for a few moments as you gaze lovingly into each others' eyes and utter those magical words, 'I do'. Quite clearly such a special time as this will be above and beyond any cruelty on the part of fate.

To take out wedding insurance is like admitting that the world won't necessarily stop for you, that your big day is not shrouded in a mysterious envelope of love which will protect it from all harm and misfortune.

Surely even having a wedding insurance policy is to invite doubt on your part, and a wedding planned on a foundation of doubt is one more surely prone to problems, disappointments and disasters? Why not play it safe and abandon the protection of a wedding insurance policy and trust in the endless protection which your love for each other has, for better or for worse, 'till death do you part.

Strangely enough, this is very nearly the way that many couples feel when it comes to planning a wedding and considering the idea of taking out wedding insurance. Weddings do funny things to people, not least of all clouding minds with fluffy, rosy images of a world that's a good deal kinder than it really is.

Whilst many weddings go smoothly and without a hitch (except of course the for hitch which is planned - after all, that's what a wedding is all about) there are many other weddings which suffer at the hands of fate, leaving the couple in question to consider rather more thoughtfully that part of their vows which refers to sticking together for richer or for poorer - the latter being especially pertinent.

The fact is that weddings are like any other special occasions - simply an occasion or event that is special to a few people, namely the guests. But the dozen or so companies and service providers enlisted to put the day together and to ensure its smooth running will not be so enamoured with the whole atmosphere of love and rose-tinted fluffiness.

For those employed to provide catering, entertainment, music, flowers, table decorations, clothing and outfits, transport and such like it is nothing much more than a normal business day. It's a little like going to the office, except with a few more tears and considerably more alcohol in many cases (though not all perhaps!)

With this in mind it is more easily understood that businesses do sometimes make mistakes, or experience problems or issues which can interfere with their own running. From double bookings to incorrect bookings, confused arrangements or misunderstood or assumed requirements, it can be very easy for businesses to get it wrong.

But it is not always the direct fault of the businesses, because they in turn often rely on other aspects, such as their own suppliers, transport or finances. Just during the last year thousands of small businesses, and some much larger ones, have become bankrupt, been handed over to the receivers or placed in administration. This inevitably has repercussions not just for their own clients, but for the clients of their clients - which could be you, if one of your service providers is let down by their supplier.

The point is that whilst your wedding day should be blissfully happy and the most wonderful and memorable day of your life, it is still just another day, and just as prone to the whim of fate and fortune. All the love in the world can't promise that everything will go smoothly, but at least if you have wedding insurance you'll be less likely to put the 'richer or poorer' vow to the test quite so soon.
