Whilst Wicca initially started off as one of the new mystery religions, the majority of current generation Wiccans decided that it was best not to continue working under a blanket of mystery. Hence information about Wicca is abundant - in books, articles and on the Web. There are no secrets anymore. Even the key to it all lays open and exposed, namely that all things (people, animals, plants, rocks, water etc) are connected and that Wiccans, because of this connection holds all things sacred.

Anybody can practice the religion, art and science of Wicca. Externally, it merely requires a willingness to work hard to learn the many, varied aspects of the Craft and internally, a dedication to Spirit. Wicca Beginners (seeker) do not need to join a specific sect, coven or family to start off with. As you learn and grow, you will know whether you wish to form part of a group or continue as a solitary.

The most important part for a Seeker embarking on the Wiccan Path is gathering information, understanding the information - in other words allowing the information to become knowledge - and then applying the knowledge gained.

1. Book of Shadows
Start keeping a BoS from Day 1. This is a collection of the spiritual lessons you learn and will contain the spells you used, magickal rules and all sorts of information you gathered around incense, oils, brews, herbs, candles, colors etc.

2. The Goddess and God
Read as much as you can about Deity. This will include reading about the Myth of Creation and the Charge of the Goddess. Both the Lady and the Lord go by many different names. Familiarize yourself with the various names of the Goddess and God as well as the story behind the names. The Goddess is Maiden, Mother and Crone. Based on the stories you have dead, identify those names you feel the greatest affinity to, for these three aspects of the Goddess.

3. Life and Death
Understand how Wiccans view Life, Death, the Summerland and Reincarnation - in other words their philosophy on the cycles of Birth, Death and Re-birth.

4. Daily Devotions
As with any other religion, Wiccans too do daily devotions to reaffirm our faith and to speak to Spirit. We also meditate because that is the time when we listen to the messages from Spirit. You will need to set up an altar, which can even be your bedside table or a table somewhere in your house. There you can place a fresh flower, fruit or a crystal (anything natural) as an offering to Spirit. If the offering has perished, you bury it in the garden to return it to nature.

5. Tools and Altars
Read up on how to set up the altar you will use inside the Magick Circle. Read up about Wands, Staffs, Athame, the four elements, ceremonial jeweler, robes and so forth. Don't just rush out and buy though. You can easily make most of the tools you will need.

6. Signs and Symbols
Learn to recognize the signs and the symbols of the Craft such as the pentagram, sacred spirals, goddess symbol and equal armed cross. Also learn how to draw invoking- and banishing pentagrams.

7. Incense, Oils, Brews, Herbs, Crystals, Candles and Colors
This part of as Wiccan's study is truly a never ending journey. The internet has an extensive amount of information available.

8. Casting the Magick Circle
Learn everything you can about the Magick Circle and how to prepare yourself emotionally, physically and mentally. Casting a Circle is a mental technique you should learn early on in your training. This is a very important aspect of the Craft as it serves as a temple, the place where we keep the power until we decide to release it. The Circle is also holy ground and keeps negative energies away from our workings. Know your directions and the elements that correspond to each direction. This is important in calling the quarters. Read various invocations to the Goddess and God. Use those that you are the most comfortable with. Later on, you may even decide to write your own.

9. Cone of Power
You will also have to learn what the Cone of Power exactly is, how to raise it and how to release it.

10. Releasing the Circle
Learn how to release the circle properly, always remembering good manners and thanking Deity for their attendance.

Follow the ten points above in sequence. Admittedly there are some overlaps, but this is just about the most logical structure that can be achieved. Wicca requires of the Seeker to apply their minds, to go to some effort and to learn by their mistakes. Ask Deity for their blessing and assistance in your search for truth. You will find amazing coincidences, such as obtaining the right information at the right time, the right crystal popping up from nowhere and the right advice being given when you feel most in need of it.

Blessed Be!
