The aging population has grown tremendously and sustained growth is predicted. Statistics indicate that 12.1% of the United States' population is currently over 65 years old. This older population numbered 35.6 million in 2002 is an increase of 3.3 million or 10.2% since 1992. By the year 2030, the 65+ population will inflate to approximately 70 million, and the 85+ population is projected to increase, from 4.6 million in 1992, to 9.6 million. This inflation in the aging population significantly impacts the manner in which service and care are provided to this cohort.  However, ageism, a prevailing form of injustice and inequality that victimizes human differences, impedes the quality of service.

It is only when individuals are able to discredit the myths and stereotypes associated with aging that they are capable of developing a deep appreciation for the aging population. As individuals, and businesses, receive realistic facts and accurate information, a better understanding of the aging population occurs. Feelings and beliefs related to the aging population must be brought to the forefront of consciousness before an atmosphere of acceptance and an age-embracing environment will emerge.Xtreme Aging Trainingfocuses on the social, physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual aspects of the aging process. The training also exposes participants to important facts about aging and alerts them to aging demographics.  With that in mind, better understanding and skills are vital in order to help identify the true needs and desires of the aging population and to be effective in service to them.Xtreme Aging –aninteractive as well as experiential training addresses aging awareness.

Training Description:

Xtreme Aging Trainingis based on the premise that preparation must parallel what occurs in real-life settings. Renewed tolerance, kindness, patience, and compassion are gained as each training participant experiences instantaneous aging. Participant's knowledge of aging is assessed, and opportunities are provided to identify and discuss:

  • Age-related myths, fears, and personal beliefs.
  • Facts related to the challenges of aging.
  • Strategies that enhance care and service.

However, the most unique feature of the training is a controlled simulated activity, which allows participants to rapidly experience the physical aspects of aging. Xtreme Aging trainers assemble realistic simulations of aging and participants take part in these activities. Actually experiencing the aging process provides a lasting memory for participants, thus preparing them as employees in the both service and care industries who better serve the aging population. Additional information, activities, and experiences assist trainees in understanding the social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual aspects of the aging process. Xtreme Aging Training creates a society that:

  • Understands and values the aging process.
