When you begin the new diet to rid yourself of a chronic yeast infection there will be plenty of changes taking place in your body as it detoxifies.

You will begin to feel worse because unfortunately, you are living through what health care providers call the Herx reaction.

This reaction, properly called the Jarisch-Herxheimer Reaction (Herx for short), is brought about by the body's responses when the yeast and bacteria begin to die off. It really does signify that you are getting better.

As the organisms die off they release toxins into your body at a rate faster than your body can eliminate them. Remember that these poisons and wastes could have been in your body for years. This is a natural process as you begin to heal.

Some of the symptoms you may experience are pimples, nausea, headaches, loss of appetite, fatigue, swollen glands and fever.

Women may also find that their vaginal yeast infection may actually worsen during the cleansing process. The vagina is commonly the last place on the body that responds to dietary changes. In this case you must consider that you have an acute vaginal yeast infection and treat it accordingly.

Rest assured that you truly are getting better, even if it does not feel that way. Once your body has cleansed itself of the organisms that have died off your health will begin to improve.

There are ways to minimize the Herx reaction effects; you must drink a minimum of 1 1/2 liters of water per day, also eat plenty of fresh veggies, which aid the detox process. Take 1 tbsp of ground flaxseed to keep the intestines moving, also plenty of stretching exercises like yoga will be very helpful. This information will be beneficial no matter what kind of detox you are doing.
