Stress is one of the number one causes of illness. Especially in today's world of fast food, fast this , and fast that. It can be hard to stay relaxed especially with the economy how it is. Many have lost jobs, which definitely adds stress to life. However, yoga can really help to calm and relax our minds. I've been doing yoga for about five months now, and I've seen a huge difference in my stress levels, and even my self-confidence. How does yoga help one calm one's mind and melt away stress? Yoga employs breathing techniques which are proven to reduce stress by calming the stress response system of the body. This can help one deal with stressful day-to-day situations, help maintain happiness, and can also help improve self-confidence. Additionally, yoga works and stretches all of one's muscles which helps tense muscles relax- improving over-all stress levels. Also, in yoga, you will spend quite a bit of time in inverted positions. These inverted positions also, surprisingly, have been proven to reduce stress levels by increasing blood flow to the brain. Yoga can also improve digestion through "twisting" poses, it will also improve circulation, posture, and cardiovascualar strength. All of this can help to reduce stress levels. There are a lot of yoga programs out there. The best one, that I've seen, is called Runner' Yoga. Runner's Yoga will teach one how to be one's own yoga instructor, and provides comprehensive audio-visual learning system to help one get the most out of yoga. It provides everything you need in a good workout. Check it out here:
