Recently, I was reading Napolean Hill's Golden Rules about Suggestion and in this chapter, he mentioned a couple of stories which I would like to share with you. Kindly, allow me to explain what is Suggestion, it is the most subtle and powerful principles of psychology. Science has proved that through the destructive use of this principle, life may be actually extinguished, while all manner of disease, life may be actually extinguished, while all manner of disease may be eliminated through its constructive use.
For example, you keep on telling yourself that I am going to be sick, I am going to be sick. And very soon, you will be sick. Or you keep on telling yourself, every end of the month something bad is going to happen to me, because it has ALWAYS been like that. Guess what, chances of it happening to you will be very high.
In this chapter there are 2 stories that I would like to share with you. One is about a woman who kept on saying that she has a cancer on her left breast and she was sure that every little imaginary ache or pain was the beginning of her long expected cancer. She would place her hand on her left breast and say, "Oh, I am sure I have cancer growing here." As soon enough, the lady has died of cancer on her left breast.
The next story is conducted by Napolean himself during a class of applied psychology where he took a two-ounce bottle labelled "Oil of Peppermint," he made a brief explanation that he wishes to demonstrate the power of smell. Then, holding the bottle in front of the class so all may see it. He explained that it contains oil of peppermint and he will poured a few drops on his handkerchief which he hold in his hand that will penetrate the farthest end of the room in about forty seconds.
He then poured a few drops on his handkerchief, at the same time turning her face out of shape to indicate that he had a too strong a draught of the odor. Next, he quickly asked the whole class how many of them managed to get the first whiff of the odor of peppermint. About 75% of the class raised up their hands.
Napolean next take the bottle and drink the contents slowly and complacently, and explain that it contained PURE WATER. Nobody smelled any peppermint at all. It was a sense of smell illusion, produced entirely through the principles of suggestion.
Here's an experiment conducted on a criminal who was condemned to death, which I read from the book, which I felt it was really eye opening for me that I need to share with you.
This criminal was brought to the guillotine, his head placed under the knife after he had been blindfolded, and a heavy board was dropped on his neck, producing a shock similar to that of the knife of the guillotine. Warm water was poured gently and allowed to trickle slowly down his neck, to imitate warm blood. In seven minutes, the doctors pronounced him dead. His imagination, through the principle of suggestion, had actually turned the sharp-edged board into a guillotine blade and stopped his heart from beating.
Now are you amazed with what you read? Because of what you suggest to yourself and others because it can effectively kill you or save you in many ways. In fact, this was how my grandmother whom was diagnosed with last stage colon cancer 1 year before I was born. She was unaware that she was going to die because my family all told her that she was perfectly fine, all she needs to do is go through a small operation (which the doctors did not do much as it was way beyond any help) and she would be fine. After nearly 30 years, she's still with us and active with her daily exercise every morning.
I hope this article sets you thinking how powerful your mind is. We are capable of creating miracles in healing as long as we totally believe in it.
