Becoming stressed when your hair is falling out in clumps and you wet yourself whenever you laugh is easy--relaxing and retaining a sense of humor is not.  Yet over and over again, menopausal women are told to practice relaxation techniques, take it easy, chill out and all will be well!  Well it isn`t.  And all this talk of deep breaths and peaceful thoughts, makes me even more anxious and stressed.

Not all of the time you understand, but now and again, whenever I gained another pound (every week), or suffer from yet another hot flash (every day). So, just what is the answer to menopause anxiety and depression?

Well let`s be honest here, it`s not as if we`re suffering from some dreadful illness from which we will never recover.  And fortunately our hair will eventually come back to us--as will our waistline and sex drive.  For me, it was the fact that I was not in control of my body and its changes.  It was doing things that I had not asked for nor welcomed.  I could handle the symptoms, as I was well prepared and had a remedy for every occasion.  But they were occurring despite my protestations and I suppose that is the crux of the matter. These things relating to menopause are totally out of our control--or are they!

It seems that problem is--crazy hormones. When they are out of balance we experience all the symptoms of menopause. And so we need to be checking out that we are giving our bodies the best chance we can, until the hormones settle down and sort themselves out. This involves:

Take care of yourself by eating little and often (five times a day is good).

Check with a professional that you are eating a balanced diet.

Get plenty of sleep. Everyone`s requirements are different so make sure you are getting your quota.

Stop smoking and drinking (ok, well just cut down then).

Hanging out with friends who will offer you the support you need.

…and relax!... Things will get better
