The prescription antidepressant Zoloft is now being prescribed for anxiety and panic disorders.  Before taking such a medication, however, one must first consider the risks and side effects.

Those who take Zoloft should be aware of the many side effects, such as insomnia, dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, lack of libido, and possible weight gain.

Zoloft may also cause thoughts of suicide or mania, although both appeared mostly in adolescents and senior citizens.

Zoloft is an addictive substance, therefore it is of the upmost importance that when coming off of the drug you seek a doctors help, because stopping to quickly can lead to severe withdrawal symptoms.

This medication has presumably been caught up in a series of accusations stating the drug is to blame for a number of suicides; therefore it is not recommended for teenagers who run the highest risk of suicide.

Because Zoloft has a hefty reputation of creating possible suicidal tendencies, it is sturdily suggested that anyone taking this drug be monitored carefully to watch for any behavioral changes.

Made available to people suffering from a form of major clinical depression, Zoloft is a capable SSRI antidepressant.

The potential for these serious side effects is why, when taking Zoloft, you should always seek the guidance of a doctor, so these side effects may be ultimately avoided.

As before, Zoloft is an antidepressant not recommended in the treatment of teens and other young people.

There have been no answers provided in explanation of the increased suicidal tendencies; therefore it is better and safer to avoid this drug.

In my personal opinion, I feel that using Zoloft as an anxiety medication is not worth the risk.  It may, however, be worth it to someone suffering from major depression, the purpose for which the drug was created.
