Can we blame it all on MTV'sMy Super Sweet 16,like writers like to do? Not really, but the truth is that this formerly modest party has morphed into something bigger. Maybe you're like me and can hardly remember your 16th -- mine sure wasn't a big deal -- but look around today and it's not out of the question to spend thousands on this event, not even counting the Mary-Kate & Ashley ideal of the car in a big, bright bow. You may think the pricey event I'm...

Many people are not aware that many big name brands of cosmetics contain ingredients that are extremely suspect. Now a new study has warned about dangerous cosmetics and the effects that these products can have on teenage girls.
Unfortunately the cosmetics that so many of us use are loaded with ingredients that we really ought not be putting on our faces. For example a recent study of big brand name lipsticks showed that over 50% of the lipsticks tested contained lead.

When you’re a child you’ll often start out in a twin or full size bed. These beds are great for small rooms as they take up less space than the larger queen/king size beds. Children grow and soon you're a teenager or young adult discovering that you’re longer than your bed which presents some issues least of which is the fact that you don’t fit your bed anymore. Your room just isn’t large enough for the bigger queen and king size beds and you’re left...

Every teen needs to belong or feel recognized by his or her own age group. Teens feel they need to conform to peer group norms and values. This is a normal behavior because teens want to be with people of their own age. At the onset of adolescence, children start to spend a lot of their time with friends than their family. The risk is that they are more susceptible to the influence of their peers. It is an accepted fact that peers can have a strong influence whether positively or...

Teens may turn into reluctant readers. Sometimes this is because the majority of the reading they do is for school and, therefore, work. Another cause may be that they are struggling with reading at the level of their peers. Often this leads them to take a defensive position and they declare reading is stupid, no fun, or boring. Parents can help by encouraging independent reading. Independent reading is motivating because it is about choosing...

I’m sure most of you have heard that the stars of Hollywood receive ‘gift bags’ when they attend the Oscars or the other glamour outings. The gifts contained within are quite nice and very lavish to most standards. What I am also sure of is that most of you have not heard that in a small town named Bisbee, Arizona the local school board has also decided and voted to give ‘gift bags’ not to local celebrities but rather to this year’s high school Prom...

Have you ever considered baby sitting as a way to earn extra money? This job is one of the most popular ways that teenagers earn spending money while they are in high school or attending college. If you sit once or twice a week, you can earn anywhere from $40 to $400 a month! The two requirements for becoming a babysitter is that you like children (that may seem obvious but sometimes this fact is overlooked) and that you are a mature individual who can handle a large amount of...

Being a teen, one of, if not the most important "Jobs"we have is going to school and getting good grades. But for some of us, it's not as easy as it sounds.
We wake up at 7-ish to get ready for school. The fortunate ones drive on their own; others have to get a ride from their parents, or use the bus. From 8-ish to 3-ish, we read books, write essays, be lectured, and even get bullied around a bit. The bogus cafeteria food does not boost our moods either. After...
