One of the most frightening things you may find yourself experiencing is an anxiety attack. Anxiety attack is much more than the simple feeling of anxiousness about an upcoming test or speech that you will have to give in front of a crowd.

You could be doing anything from shopping, driving, watching TV, etc and suddenly, for no reason, your hit by an overwhelming sense of fear which does not relate to the situation at all. You heart is beating fast, you can't breathe...

Hyperventilation is rapid or deep breathing, usually caused by anxiety or panic. This overbreathing, as it is sometimes called, may actually leave you feeling breathless. When you breathe, you inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. Excessive breathing may lead to low levels of carbon dioxide in your blood, which causes many of the symptoms that you may feel if you hyperventilate.

Hyperventilation is breathing in excess of what the body needs. This is sometimes...

It is very necessary to catch this disease at primary level to avoid serious damages. Initially patients do not accept the fact that they need psychological treatment, which proves very harmful to them. The symptoms of depression are also different in each case, so, analysis of the illness is difficult. Severity level of depression can drive the patients to suicide attempts. Change in behavior; negative thinking, unwillingness, sudden change in mood are some symptoms of depressive...

Ever have trouble letting go of a relationship? Obsessed with another person? Way too loyal, to the point where it hurts you and possibly others who care about you? Are others who are dependent on you, even your children, getting hurt because you are keeping yourself and them in a destructive, even dangerous relationship? Are your friends offering suggestions that you immediately reject? Or are you avoiding telling anyone what is really going on? Embarrassed by the behavior of the one...

How long does it take to “cure” someone abusing drugs or alcohol? 21 days? 28 or 30 days? And what if you send your loved one to rehab for 3 or 4 weeks, and they return home to their same habits? What program is the right program?  There are so many on the internet nowadays, it’s almost impossible to know.

The most important thing to remember when looking for a good  heroin or cocaine treatment program is that addiction is generally not cured in 30 days...

In a job interview, it would be easier for me to admit that I am a recovering addict or ex-con (I am neither) than to reveal that I have Bipolar Disorder (which I do). Such is the stigma. And there have been a number of times when I have felt guilty for calling off sick after waking up in a nasty bipolar mood. But it need not be so. An employer has far more to lose by discriminating against a Bipolar employee, than does the employee by being open about his condition.

Chorea is an abnormal voluntary movement disorder, one of a group of neurological disorders called dyskinesias, which are caused by overactivity of the neurotransmitter dopamine in the areas of the brain that control movement. Chorea is characterized by brief, irregular contractions that are not repetitive or rhythmic, but appear to flow from one muscle to the next. Chorea often occurs with athetosis, which adds twisting and writhing movements. Chorea is a primary feature of...

Delayed Grief

While a slight delay in grieving is normal, an absence of grieving for weeks and months is unusual. All too often people who delay grieving are praised by others ("She's so strong that she didn't even cry at the funeral," or "Isn't he amazing to be able to carry on so well?"). By delaying grief, you may be denying the fact that your loved one has died.

Prolonged Grief

Sometimes people become "stuck" in the...

We are all concerned about the health of our children from the moment that they emerge into the world, but an overlooked aspect of their health could turn out to be one of the biggest factors. A child's mental health, and, later in life, an adolescent's mental health, have huge effects on the way that our children and teens live. Problems like depression can affect the quality of life for your adolescent, and can even affect their physical health.

If you think that your...

1. Be predictable, don"t surprise them. If you say you are going to meet them somewhere at a certain time, be there. If you agree to respond to a certain anxious habit in a certain way, stick to the plan.

2. Don"t assume that you know what the affected person needs, ask them. Make a mutual plan about how to fight the anxiety problem.

3. Let the person with the disorder set the pace for recovery. Its going to take months to change avoidance patterns,...
