You know what most successful people have in common? The answer is simple: goal setting. In these current and ever more chaotic times, carefully setting goals is far more important than aimlessly plowing through busywork. For instance, take a look at Bill Gates. Barely into adulthood he founded Microsoft and now he is the head of a huge software empire… and he doesn't even have a university degree! Goal setting is what made him (and all other achievers around the world) a...

Know exactly what you want

This may sound obvious but unless you know exactly what you want, how can you achieve it? The more details, numbers, dates you can plan the better. You need a very clear focus of what you do want in order to receive it.

Write down your goals

This is one technique that sorts out the people who succeed and the people who fail. We are...

Every time you get in your car to go anywhere, you are working on achieving a goal. There is somewhere you want to be, so you take action to get there. The three major things that get you where you want to go when driving are a specific destination, directions for getting there, and a way to track your progress. You must also have these three things to achieve any goal.

Specific Destination

Before even getting into your car, you must know where you are going....

Sometimes we feel we're ‘stuck' in life, and maybe even feel a little confused about what we really want to do in life. It isn't impossible to figure it out, and one way of accomplishing this is by interpreting your dreams. We dream about one to four hours every night, and if we take the time to do the work, these dreams can be deciphered, allowing us to connect the dreams to our inner needs.

When dreaming, the subconscious part is telling our conscious part what it is...

In this short article I'd like to discuss a certain kind of belief that holds many people - people who are quite capable and talented - back from reaching goals, realizing dreams, and becoming all that they can become. The concept of the "Absolute Presupposition" is central to this discussion. (The term was originally coined by the British philosopher R.G. Collingwood, in a somewhat different context.)

What is an absolute presupposition? For our purposes here we may...

Why is it that 95% of people who set themselves goals fail to reach them? In one word: impatience.

The most important and difficult stage of goal-building is the immediate stage after you set your goals. In the first stage, there's a brief blip of euphoria. But this soon passes and then you hit the arid plateau of learning. It's in this phase that most people lose their way and give up.

But this is the phase when you have to hang in there despite appearances....

I was talking to a friend of mine this morning about her financial goals for the year. After listening to her for a few minutes, I interrupted to ask how she felt about those goals.

There was a long pause. Finally, I asked if I could share my thoughts about goals - why I don't set them for myself, and why I think they're terribly limiting and frustrating.

By the end of the call, she was in tears, and I nearly was. I had been in the right place at the right time for...

Leaders set goals. But they often set only one type of goal, and in so doing they set themselves up for failure. Here is the complete tool kit.

1) Achievement goals - These describe results that you will have when you finish the goal. Examples include: retire with a million dollars at age 65, earn a promotion by June, increase sales by 5%. Most major goals are achievement goals.

2) Action goals - These describe specific actions that you will take to accomplish...

Goal Setting! It's a wonderful thing. All you have to do is set a goal and now your life is on easy street. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way.

But wait a minute, I thought goal setting is all the rage? All I have to do is set a goal, everything becomes clear and all my next steps instantly appear. I guess that is possible, but you must avoid the biggest trap of goal setting.

What about your big goals that haven't happened yet? Most likely they will provide...

Occasionally when I talk with people about goals they seem to interpret the intention of goals as being to get more things. Naturally things are important but there is so much more to goal setting that I wish to share with you.

Of course it is important to have goals for new things ...

Perhaps your dream home by the ocean ...

Maybe a nice shiny new car to get you around in style ...

or even a new iPod to listen to your Goals Magic CD's on...
