One of our most self-defeating behaviors is the tendency to say yes, when we really want to – and ought to – say no.

In his book, The Power of a Positive No: Save the Deal, Save the Relationship – and Still Say No, William Ury, Co-founder of Harvard’s Program on Negotiation and coauthor of Getting to Yes, suggests that we confuse the issue of whether to say no with how to say no.  As he puts it, “Since the how seems impossible, the whether seems...

How much are you really worth?

There is a big difference between how much you're really worth and how much you are getting paid.

Most of you reading this probably have some sort of job where your boss determines how much you get paid. Basically your boss is putting a price tag on your face!

Do you believe what he/she is telling you? If you are getting paid, let's say $50,000/year, do you think you are worth that kind of money? Probably not. Ask yourself...

How well do you work? What I mean is, what do you actually produce, and at what level of quality?

Your time management at work dictates both. Whether you're part of a large organization or you work for yourself, how you manage your time has a direct impact on what you do, how you do it and, just as importantly, how you feel about it.

When you're working, all you ever need to decide is what to do and how to do it. Maybe what to do isn't something you need to give a lot of...

According to a report that I was reading recently, one in every three adults suffers from moderate to high levels of personal stress. With so much bad news in the papers and on television, uncertainty about the economy and the pressure of daily life, is it any wonder more of us are feeling stressed.

  • Every year nearly something close to 50,000 Australians are admitted to hospital due to stress-related disorders.
  • Stress requires more people to take time off work than...

“I know there was something I had to do today… What was it?”

Why not save yourself the time and effort of constantly asking that question and get into the habit of writing a Daily Action List. Start off by purchasing a spiral notepad. Spiral notebooks are great because they keep  your information all together. There’s no loose bits of paper flying around and you can always refer back to your previous lists if you need to.

Write up...

An employment office was checking on an applicant’s list of references.  “How long did this man work for you?” a former boss was asked.  “About five hours,” was the swift retort.  “Well!  He reported to us that he’s been with your company for a long time!” exclaimed the surprised caller.  “Oh, yeah,” replied the ex-employer, “he’s been here all right, for two years.”

Indeed,...

If you are wrong everyone will have forgotten what you said by the time it happens anyway. Having gotten that major disclaimer out of the way, let's take a look at the industry and try to make some sense out of it.

The industry really got started almost thirty years ago in the United States. Many real estate developers lured by the vision of being able to sell a $100,000 condo for $500,000 jumped in. Not realizing they were in the marketing business in which they were...

In today’s competitive era, we face with a lot of new products, technologies, problems, rules and regulations been introduced to us daily and they are fast changing too. In order to stay ahead or at least not to be left behind, we need to keep up the trends. However, everyone has the same limited time resources in day and these create stress to our life. Therefore, we need to formulate a better time management strategies to handle these in less stressful way. Below are some of the...

The sheer amount of paper that I get on any given day is enormous. I get handed reports from my employees. I get handed reports from vendors and distributors. I get incoming faxes. I print off emails. I print off my own reports. I get handed various memos and lists from people. I have receipts. I have bills to pay. I have mail to go out. I have mail coming in—most of it junk. And on top of that...I'm a writer and a consultant, so I have tons of research material and rough drafts...
