"Joyce" was on the witness stand and clearly uncomfortable. She had been subpoenaed to testify at the divorce of her best friend, "Monica", and was being forced to reveal what Monica had confided to her. Thankfully, Monica had not been unfaithful, but she had confessed that the divorce was wearing her down, making her depressed, and affecting her ability to care for her two young children.

Depression, loss of sleep, lack of energy…perfectly normal...

"Is it okay if I go out on a date?" asked my client, "John". He had filed for divorce and taken his own apartment. "After fighting with my wife for two years, "I'd like be to be with someone who is glad to have me around."

I get this question all the time as a divorce attorney. And, my simple answer is always the same: "Not until your divorce is final." But, life is rarely simple. "John" was lonely and stressed out. Meeting...

"I'm going to clean his clock!" That's "Susan" and she is relishing the prospect of "getting even" with her philandering husband.

As her attorney, I have the often thankless task of helping Susan adjust her expectations. Like many clients, she is convinced that once a judge hears of her husband's illicit affair and how he spent untold sums of their money on that relationship, the judge will award her the bulk of their assets as compensation for her...

"Should I move out?" I hear this often from those contemplating divorce. Typically, it's the husband asking and he is initiating the divorce. He is worried about giving up his interest in the house, and the right to return.

From a strictly legal perspective, those fears are unfounded. If the home is jointly owned, each has an equal right to the house, an equal stake in its value. Similarly, the person moving out has the right to move back in, should that be necessary,...

Have you suddenly been thrust onto the singles scrap heap? Does becoming part of the singles and dating scene again seem out of your comfort zone? What are some ways for singles to over come loss after being dependent on another person for support and comfort for many years, then suddenly losing this comfort zone. Some people find initial comfort and self confidence in dating again. However going to singles bars is often too daunting after being out of practice for so long, as self...

You are a divorced woman and you have lost that wonderful place you called home, and the pain is great regardless of how long you spent there. It was home. It carried your personal trademark, it showcased your personality.

It will take you a while to get used to your new apartment. You keep forgetting that the bedroom is no longer as spacious as it used to be. Every time you enter it, you are shocked and distressed. You could be depressed, and have thoughts of suicide. If you...

As common sense and statistics tell us, the leading cause of marital discord is money. Therefore, it is not surprising that many times divorce inventories have more red numbers than black ones.

Media sources often portray Hollywood stars of “power couples” divorcing. Included with the typical hype may be which party will get the mansion, vacation home, or car collection, but rarely is there any coverage about how the parties will divide debt.

The hard...

Many fathers are concerned about their rights to being assessed fair child maintenance payments based on what they can afford. While the federal government mandates that each state uphold a schedule; they do not require it to be consistent from state to state. In Texas, child maintenance payments are calculated by the following formula.

First, 100% of wages from salary, bonuses, overtime, interests, dividends, royalty, tips and commissions are considered. If you are self employed,...

So, is divorce really the answer to all family disagreements , financial disputes , disturbed relationships?

I think not! I personally think divorce is actually the starting point of all the troubles , worries and tension!

While making the decision of separation , each partner should atleast for once give a thorough thought to what this would mean to their children. They are the one's who have to face the real consequences and after effects of divorce.

Statistics...

When it comes to men & divorce, help is not as easily available as you might think. Because of the mans traditional role as breadwinner society and the media especially tend to focus on the plight of the woman who often ends up with the kids as well and their financial difficulties and so on and so forth. Nothing against this, but it is not just women who have it rough after divorce these days and I dare say even years ago!

Recent studies have shown that it is actually...
