One thing every smoker would like is to conintue their habit without having to be worried about all the associated risks that go with it. Many alternatives to smoking are expensive and unpleasant and all too often don't achieve what you hoped they would. It often seems that the pharmeceutical companies are the only real winners in these methods. They removed the need for going at it with willpower alone but the replacements were unsatisfactory to say the least.

What smokers...

Drug addiction is a problem that is growing at an alarming rate, undermining the core values of our society.  Individuals are getting sucked in to this inevitable black hole of doom and climbing out takes the caring concern of someone who is willing to intervene and confront the individual with their addiction, without wavering.

Intervention is a difficult task, met with great resistance.  Often times when a drug addict is confronted they will get angry and sometimes...

While marijuana is considered a soft drug in comparison to others such as cocaine and heroin, it can still be very addictive and destructive. Many people find that their lives revolve around weed and it fills any voids in their lives. Weed becomes such a part of their daily lives that they feel they live in a haze and that they are missing out on some very important parts of their life. The first thing to know when learning how to quit smoking pot is that marijuana is not a chemically...

The increase in the amount of alcohol testing conducted in this country is something that should have probably happened much earlier. The government agencies are facing up to the fact that alcohol abuse can result in various harmful situations. Since it is possible to avoid such accidents from occurring, a stricter control is being levied on people who drink and abuse the freedom that has been granted to them. Alcohol testing can be done in various ways. The various affordable options...

Each of us is exposed to and bombarded by – on a daily basis – an evil that is extremely enticing and appealing, so selfishly gratifying (temporarily), so unavoidably addictive, and so incredibly damaging to our thoughts, lives, families, and society. It is a plague and modern day slavery that is slowly and subtly destructive, and yet it is justified by the supposed mass-popularity, innate natural passions within us all, and the wrongly assumed reasoning that participation...

The Problem of Prescription Oxycodone Abuse

As you may know, prescription drug abuse has developed into a huge problem in the United States. For example, a 2005 Monitoring the Future survey of high school students showed that OxyContin abuse went up among 12th graders by 40 percent in 3 years. OxyContin is one of the many generic names for drugs that include the narcotic oxycodone.

When used as prescribed, drugs like OxyContin and Percocet (which also contains...

With heroin use on the rise, rehabilitation centers from coast to coast have become filled with people that end up needing professional help to stop using it. The popularity of heroin has made it the drug of choice for people that use and experiment with drugs. Heroin has become rather easy for anyone to obtain, and the cost is very low, dollar for dollar, when compared to powdered or crack cocaine. The effects of heroin are much more desirable than cocaine, and when given a choice,...

Here's a question: How many gratitude lists have you written in your recovery? And how many times have you suggested that same list-writing exercise to others? I assert that the answer is MANY-- if notmany, many. I also assert that the reason we continue the tradition and encourage our fellows to do the same, is because it works. And you know what they say, "If it's not broken, don't fix it." A list...

Drug addiction counseling is an essential part of any recovery program.  Addiction is a complex disease that damages the addict physically, mentally, and spiritually. Because of the holistic nature of the illness, the optimal treatment addresses the needs of the addict in many areas. Physical, emotional, spiritual, and interpersonal needs must all be addressed to support recovery.

When you are trying to overcome a demon as huge as a drug problem, drug addiction...

Pornographic addiction is not accurately described by an occasional urge to look at one or two saucy pictures now and again. It is a more serious approach; the desire to view pornographic images and an inability to stop doing so. Baby boomers in middle and old age might have taken little interest in such images in early life, yet display an obsession late in life that they cannot overcome.

How do you know if you are addicted to pornography?  It is a simple analysis of...
