The modern high school student has to deal with many form of pressure. There is pressure from home and society to do well at school, while peer pressure encourages the pursuit of "coolness". There are the stresses that come with getting into college, with all the entrance exams and competition for limited scholarships to pay for it all. So it is no wonder that child anxiety disorders are fairly commonplace.

One form that child anxiety can take is math anxiety...

Can an addiction to alcohol be cured? Any number of high-priced private health clinics would like to give a clear-cut answer to this question, but the traditional understanding of groups such as 'Alcoholics Anonymous' is that alcohol addiction can never be cured, but only controlled.

Of course no one would refute that many of the physical problems linked with excessive alcoholic substances ingestion can be cured, though some are more easily treated than others.

The...

An alcohol dependency is a chronic illness that can destroy a person's career and their family. It can also be fatal to their health if left untreated.

Substantial alcoholic substances drinking on a common basis causes chemical changes to a individual's brain. For example, it changes the composition of the body's gamma-aminobutyric acids, which function to inhibit impulsiveness, and glutamate, which stimulates the nervous system. Too much drinking also tends to eat up these...

Almost every one of us has someone in our life whom we wish we could change or whom we wish would change; desiring them to do things differently or to be different. It might be a boss, coworker, colleague, team member, friend, family member or worse, a romantic partner.

Understanding that we cannot change anyone (except ourselves) is step one to inner peace. Step two is to understand yourself and others. Step three is change yourself. Step four is clear out of your life those...

Before an anxiety patient even walks through a therapist's office door, the therapist has a list of anti anxiety medications ready to help the patient out.

Even though there is a number of medications a person can be prescribed, it is recommended that this not be the only form of treatment the patient gets.

Why should this not be the only form? Most anxiety prescription drugs are habit forming and also very addictive causing more problems for the person later...

Is meditation a useful form of  therapy to cure stress, anxiety disorders and panic attacks  or is it a waste of time?

By Dennis Fisher.

There are many people who are very happy indeed with the results they have been able to obtain from meditation.  They say meditation helped them cure their anxiety, stress and frequent panic attacks and brought tranquility, calm and harmony into their lives. There are others, however, who consider meditation to be very much...

I can remember when I first began to go to Alanon for families and friends of alcoholics. It was shocking to realize just how truly warped my own thinking was.

First of all I began to see that I had an enemy- a very real, true, and vicious one. And he was living perilously close to me. In fact this enemy was inhabiting the very sacred space called "My brain."  This enemy, who knew my every weakness and sore spot and was not afraid to use it, used to taunt me...

In principle anxiety doesn’t have to be bad, we can’t simply jump to the definition of an illness, in fact according to the National Institute Of Mental Health; anxiety is defined as a normal reaction to stress. It usually helps people to deal with a number of stressful situations, for example; a tense situation in the office, study harder for an exam, keep focused on an important speech, etc. In short we could say that anxiety is good for our survival when it’s...

Exposure therapy as treatment for Social Phobia is exactly what it sounds like, exposing your mind and body to that which you fear. By gradually exposing and training your mind that the feared event is not as horrible as you think it is, you are working to desensitize yourself to the stimulus.

A). During exposure therapy, you expose yourself to small doses of the feared event and increase the duration of exposure over time. If you are afraid of talking in groups, start by...

A meditation technique where one focuses on the field or background and embrace all the perception around that field is called Mindfulness Meditation. It is in contrast to another meditation technique called concentration meditation, where one channels all the energy and focus on one specific object or subject, blocking all distractions around.

In mindfulness meditation, the meditator is trained to have an open focus of all the inter-related senses coming from the immediate...
