Its a fact, Quitting smoking is one of the best things a person can do to increase their life expectancy. On average, male smokers who quit at 35 years old can be expected to live to be 76 years old instead of 69 years if they were still smoking.

Women who quit would live to be 80 years old instead of 74 years.  The staggering truth is that even facts like that are not enough to get us to quit smoking.

Why is it so hard? Maybe because we enjoy the calming...

Smoking retains it's popularity in the United States despite all the Surgeon General's warnings and tobacco company lawsuits. Roughly a quarter of all Americans are still smoking. In many parts of the United States, smoking is as part of the mainstream culture as baseball and apple pie. Why does this past-time enjoy such esteem in today's day and age? That is a great question and one that has a pretty good, if not complicated answer.

Currently, there are many stop smoking aids,...

There are many aids available to help people stop smoking: nicotine patches, gum, even hypnosis tapes. But the problem with these methods is that none of them help you to stop smoking for life. Many people who use these methods may be smoke-free for a time, but many of them also find themselves craving a cigarette during a stressful situation or perhaps in a place where other people are lighting up around them. Mark Twain once said, "It's easy to quit smoking. I've done it hundreds...

When it comes to long term health, there are really two categories of people. There are the smokers and the non-smokers. It is a well known statistical fact that the group of people that live longer are the non-smokers. I don't say this to strike fear in the smokers but to just state a fact. On average, a smoker dies about 8 years sooner than a non-smoker. A major cause of heart disease and lung disease is still smoking. 90 percent of all lung cancers are associated with smoking. Now,...

More and more people are finally getting around to stopping smoking these days for several reasons.  First of all, smoking has become terribly expensive.  What used to be an inexpensive addiction is now extremely expensive.  In fact, if you added up what you spent on cigarettes last year, you probably could have taken your entire family on vacation.  People are also choosing to stop because it is getting more and more difficult to smoke anywhere in public.  You...

If you've decided that the time is here or near to quit smoking, I will commend you, and if you are reading this, then you must be curious as to what to expect in the coming days and weeks. Quit smoking withdrawal symptoms have some common traits with having a cold.

Quitters flu is the common name used to describe the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. Understanding what you are going to be experiencing may help you better prepare yourself to move through this stage...

Many people are starters and not finishers. We all know someone who can talk a great game but in the end, can't be counted on to complete the task. Sometimes, I even find myself in that category of person. If only we could take a pill for commitment. Now wouldn't that save a lot of marriages?

Well, there is a drug that can raise a person's commitment level. A substance that has scientific proof and years of data showing its abilities. Unfortunately, it doesn't actually help us...

Drug addiction is considered as the most grievous problem for centuries. Predominantly, opium, heroin and cocaine were used for many kinds of medicinal purposes until people use them for fulfilling their physical cravings. As a result, the number of addiction is increasing day-by-day creating so many other problems. Earlier, people try to hide their problems but now with the improvement in the medical facilities and increased public awareness, modern drug treatment can be availed very...

There are two parts of the addiction to cigarettes.

  • Physical addiction to nicotine
  • Behavior addiction of handling and lighting cigarettes.

There is absolutely no disagreement that nicotine is addictive.

The Physical Nicotine Addiction

Everybody agrees that it is, in fact, an addictive substance...and it is poison, too. Nicotine is the tobacco plant's natural protection against insects. In the same volume, nicotine is a poison that is...

You did! By deciding to read this article, has taken a major step toward breaking your addiction to cigarettes, and are on their way to a life free of nicotine. Maybe you have tried quitting before only to start smoking again after a few days, weeks or even months of being smoke free. But be sure you can definitely quit. In fact, according to the American Lung Association, more than 45 million Americans, and more from around the world, and quit " natural teeth whitening ".
